A new start – spring in the school garden – time to plant.

We’ve delayed the start a little this year but finally, we got a chance to take the children into the school garden. After such a successful year last year we are really looking forward to this year. The children got a chance to plant potatoes, crimson flower broad beans, french beans, sunflowers, calendula, onions and peas.

The apple trees, fruit bushes, rhubarb, and native hedging plants are also showing signs of life. Keep coming back for more news on this years progress.

We would like to thank Irish Seed Savers for sponsoring the planting again this year. Also thanks must go to the parents who are so generous with their time and the teachers who allow us into the school.

Science Week 4 – Lifecycles (Frogs and Butterflies)

On the sunniest day of the year so far, the science gang learnt about the lifecycles of the frog and the butterflies. The class took on a new class pet for the week, some tadpoles. These will return to the class after the Easter Break. They will soon inhabit the new school pond, part of the School Garden. The class also learnt about the lifecycle of Butterflies and as soon as the weather gets warmer, they will also take part in a conservation exercise. The class will take delivery of some painted lady butterfly eggs that they will hatch, watch transform into butterflies and then release into the Garden. This years science experiements are now coming to class, a massive thank you to Mandy the class teacher for letting us into the classroom. Thanks must also go to IT Tallaght for sponsoring this years activities.

La Glas – A celebration of our culture.

We hope you all had a wonderful bank holiday. On Friday just before the St Patrick Weekend festivities got started, our children had their own celebration of our culture and our heritage. Everyone got dressed up and shared a special celebratory meal. As you can see everyone had a wonderful time, thank you to everyone who got involved and helped make this a great day.

Science Week 3 – Robots

It was loud and fun, the students of BETNS got to grips with programming LEGO robots and HEXBUGS (small insect like robots that race around a small track). Once again the upper years then taught what they had learnt to the younger years.

Science Week 2 – Renewable Energy

Science Week 2 was a great success, the students in the upper classes were shown examples of Wind, Solar and Hydrogen power. The upper years then gave a demonstration to the lower years.
